WHEREAS, pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. §59–125–1, et. seq., the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University is created and established as a body corporate for the purpose of effectuating the educational mission of Winthrop University; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Winthrop Board of Trustees Bylaws art. IV(G), the Board of Trustees is empowered to grant honorary degrees upon such persons as the Trustees may deem appropriate; and
WHEREAS, Winthrop University is authorized to award both earned and honorary degrees; and
WHEREAS, Winthrop University recognizes the significant achievements of individuals through the awarding of an honorary degree; and
WHEREAS, honorary degree deliberations are intentionally kept secret and held in confidence;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees concurs with the recommendation of the Honorary Degree Review Committee and the President to notify the individual recommended that Winthrop will award the designated honorary degree at a mutually acceptable time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Acting Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on the 27th Day of February 2025, in its scheduled Board Retreat. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Acting Secretary of the Board in a time and manner as required by law.
