WHEREAS, pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. §59–125–1, et. seq., the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University is created and established as a body corporate for the purpose of effectuating the educational mission of Winthrop University; and
WHEREAS, a priority project of the recently completed Campus Gate, Entry and Fence Study was the Southwest Gateway that will connect the campus with University Center of the Knowledge Park corridor; and
WHEREAS, the southwest corner of the campus at Stewart Street already is being utilized by pedestrians who travel to and from the campus by the shortest path in reaching student housing and retail development in the University Center and beyond; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Gateway is envisioned to create a formal entry point to campus to help guide students and visitors alike in what will become a very highly trafficked area; and
WHEREAS, the administration presented to the Board during its regularly scheduled June meeting the plans, design and estimated cost for the Southwest Gateway;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved moving forward with the Southwest Gateway Project to begin $400,000 in renovations to enhance the campus entrance connecting Winthrop to University Center at Knowledge Park.
