Beyond Graduation

"Two themes define my academic career at Winthrop: 1) I was always working on my assigned readings and essays months in advance for any class, and 2) I typically exceeded the expectations for assignments, doing more research and writing more pages than was called for. I couldn't hold myself back from engaging with the material at a faster pace and on a deeper level than my classmates because I was just so eager to absorb as much as I could. The B.A.-M.A. Accelerated Program felt tailored specifically for me because I got the chance to start working on my M.A. degree earlier than anticipated. And since I was treated as an M.A. student, I had new responsibilities and my work was held to higher expectations; these were demands I needed in order to challenge myself more. Even though I sometimes miss being a student, being a participant in this program supported me in starting my post-graduate career sooner, which is something that's difficult to not take advantage of."
