The Master of Arts in English is a valuable degree with diverse applications. Over 50% of the scholars teaching English in colleges today hold the M.A. as their highest degree; it is an integral credential both for employment and for entrance into doctoral programs and other professional schools. The Department of English at Winthrop University offers a Master of Arts degree that emphasizes the study of literature, while embracing the diversity of English studies. Students are able to take courses in creative writing, composition and rhetoric, linguistics, and digital writing. Well-qualified undergraduates may apply for the Accelerated B.A.-M.A. degree. We also work closely with the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, which offers a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with emphasis in Secondary English Education.
