Accounting

Student Organizations

Accounting students are encouraged to join both campus and professional organizations.

The Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics supports Beta Alpha Psi, the international student honorary organization for Accounting, Finance, and Information Systems. The Winthrop Beta Alpha Psi chapter is active in many areas including service projects, Meet the Firms, and hosting business professionals for presentations.

Winthrop also supports a local chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, a nationwide professional association with the primary purpose of developing, encouraging and serving as a resource for greater participation by minorities in the accounting, finance, and business professions.  Its mission is to address the professional and needs of its members and to build leaders that shape the future of business professions with an unfaltering commitment to inspire the same in their successors.  It is committed to addressing the needs of minorities in the business fields as well as students aspiring to enter the profession.

Students may also choose from many other College of Business Student Organizations and Honor Societies and University Student Organizations.

In addition, students are encouraged to become student members of professional organizations such as the South Carolina Association of CPAs, The American Institute of Public Accountants, The Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Institute of Management Accountants.
