The Education Core at Winthrop University aligns with the Unit Standards and provides teacher candidates with a set of foundational experiences and critical content necessary to develop as highly effective educators. Consisting of purposefully sequenced courses, candidates transition from student to professional through over 1,000 hours of field-based learning and expert guidance.
It is important to note that the Education Core focuses on knowledge and skill acquisition, thus content is not presented singularly, but throughout the sequence of courses. This does not mean concepts and ideas are repeated; moreso they are deliberately integrated at multiple points to support candidate development of (1) fluency, (2) maintenance, and finally (3) generalization.
