Build New Paths Together
Winthrop is devoted to diversity and inclusion through its
- diverse student body—approximately 47% of Winthrop students are from racial and ethnic
minority groups
- multicultural organizations where students can celebrate and learn about different
cultures while connecting with their peers
- workshops designed to cultivate a more educated, empathetic and supportive community
of allies
- resources to help students succeed in college while being their most authentic selves
Students are encouraged to get involved in celebrating diversity on campus through
spreading awareness of their own lived experiences, learning about the culture of
others, and participating in events and workshops centered on diversity education
and embracing different perspectives.

"My favorite thing about being a Winthrop student is being a part of the diverse nature
we have here on our campus. Growing up in a small town, I felt as if I was not able
to be my authentic self because I was surrounded by so many narrow-minded individuals.
Though I love my hometown, coming to Winthrop has impacted me the most because of
the welcoming and accepting environment. To have an office dedicated to ensuring the
diverse nature of our campus speaks for itself, but I am truly grateful to serve and
be a part of the Winthrop community in this capacity."

"Winthrop University is intentional about cultivating an environment where inclusivity
and acceptance is standard across all aspects of the University. In my experience
at Winthrop, my participation in the Diversity Peer Educator Program has allowed me
to gain a greater understanding of diversity and inclusion, through the education
of myself and the opportunity to educate other members of the Winthrop community.
Programs and initiatives such as the DPE program within ODSE, are essential to the
atmosphere that makes Winthrop feel like home!"
