Winthrop University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, and specialist degrees. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of Winthrop University may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, by calling 404/679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC’s website (www.sacscoc.org).
Since 1923, Winthrop University has continuously maintained its SACSCOC accreditation, which was most recently reaffirmed in 2022. In addition to approval for receipt of federal funding, accreditation by SACSCOC demonstrates the institution’s commitment to providing an excellent educational experience and its desire to improve the quality of the institution.
SACSCOC accreditation is institutional in nature. Although many of Winthrop’s academic programs are accredited by other agencies, SACSCOC accredits the university as a whole, not specific degrees or programs.
