ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – In two weeks, passionate Winthrop University supporters will come together for 24 hours to show their pride and help pave the way for future Eagles in the annual Bleed Garnet, Give Gold campaign.

This year’s event will begin at noon on April 22 and end at noon on April 23.

Before officially kicking off the event, representatives from each college and division will compete in the Eagle Float Frenzy: Race for Gold in the West Center pool at 11 a.m. Whoever wins will receive an additional $5,000 for that respective college/division.

The nonprofit OneBlood Bloodmobile will be on campus from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days, encouraging supporters to literally Bleed Garnet for a good cause and then continue the philanthropic spirit by making a donation.

Representatives from the Division of University Advancement will be tabling on Scholars Walk with free food and activities, all to let people know more about how they can change the lives of students, support remarkable educators and give back to programs that make a difference to Winthrop and the community.

Fundraisers have set a goal of inspiring 1,000 donors to give back this year, which will help “unlock” more funds for the university via creative donor challenges and matching gifts.

Other matches and challenges include:

  • The Springs Close Foundation will match dollar for dollar all gifts to the Close Scholars Fund up to a maximum of $100,000;
  • An anonymous member of the Class of 1975 will match dollar for dollar all gifts to the Byrnes Auditorium Theatrical Lighting Fund up to a maximum of $10,000; and
  • Winthrop University Foundation Board members Linda Warner ’80 and Harry Emerson will match dollar for dollar all gifts to the Department of Interior Design’s new space at The Thread up to a maximum of $5,000.

As in past years, donors will be able to give to designated areas that mean the most to them. That includes student scholarships, athletic programs, academic colleges and departments, and other programs like undergraduate research. Explore all of the causes and areas.

Make a gift during Bleed Garnet, Give Gold to support Winthrop!
