ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA -- The COVID-19 pandemic has colleges and universities across the nation changing and evolving their processes and operations, but one thing remains the same: they must continue warmly welcoming the incoming Class of 2024.

Winthrop University's Office of Admissions has implemented a number of new virtual initiatives to ensure consistent communication with future Eagles while the campus is currently closed.

"We are collaborating across the campus to make sure we get students the most up-to-date information we can," said Amanda James, director of admissions. "It is a TEAM effort, and we are so fortunate to have such an amazing community at Winthrop."

No On-Campus Visiting? No Problem!

Every April the university welcomes newly admitted students and their loved ones for Winthrop Day, a normally large on-campus event that celebrates becoming an Eagle. Because the on-campus Winthrop Day and all spring admissions on-campus recruitment events were canceled, Winthrop will instead hold a virtual Winthrop Day in late April.

Counselors are also inviting prospective students to virtually tour the Winthrop campus via the website.

Chat It Up!

Admissions counselors are available for phone calls and virtual chats with students and parents about next steps when it comes to enrollment, financial aid, Orientation and more, as well as letting them know how Winthrop is taking care of its students during this crisis.

Easy as 1-2-3

Admissions staff members are creating "How-To" videos to help prospective students navigate the Wingspan portal in order to view and accept their financial aid offer, submit their deposit, sign up for Orientation and complete their residence life forms to live on campus.

One-Stop Shop

Staff members also are working on a page dedicated to admitted students that would serve as a "one-stop shop" for updated information on deadlines/due dates, Orientation plans, Virtual Day log-ins and more, and the page will include videos from current students as well.

"This page will provide them with important information while also giving them the chance to virtually meet members of our Winthrop family," James said.
