ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Ed Driggers ’92, a member of the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the South Carolina City and County Management Association.
The award, which is the association’s highest award for public service, recognizes Driggers’ 30 years of local government and public management experience and his overall positive impact on the state.
Driggers retired in 2020 as the city administrator for Greer, South Carolina, a position he held for two decades. He previously served for more than four years as city administrator in Chester and as the plant superintendent for Carolina Tank Corporation. Additionally, he served as the executive director for the South Carolina Division of the American Cancer Society, and his interest in municipal government was born during his first job as a staff reporter for The Chester News and Reporter.
He joined the Winthrop board in 2018, representing Congressional District 4. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop and a Bachelor of Arts in public relations from the University of South Carolina.
Driggers has been involved with a number of organizations including the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Partnership For Tomorrow Board of Directors, Greer Development Corporation Board of Directors, Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary International, BMW Community Advisory Panel, Mitsubishi Polyester Film Corporation Community Advisory Panel, University of South Carolina Alumni Association, Winthrop University Alumni Association and First Presbyterian Church, Greer.
His wife, Christy Bigham Driggers '82, '88, holds both a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Arts from Winthrop.
