ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Are you a current art teacher? Are you certified? Would you like some graduate-level professional development? If you answered ‘yes’ to these three questions, then the Graduate School at Winthrop University’s new Graduate Certificate in Art Education program is the perfect fit for you.
A stand-alone credential, the program promises:
*Contemporary pedagogy;
*Curriculum development;
*Skill building as an artist/researcher/teacher;
*Qualitative and post-qualitative research methodology;
*Program assessment;
*Intentional teaching and leadership skills; and
*A deep understanding of visual literacy.
“This program is designed to welcome current certified art teachers to gain graduate-level professional development, to continue creating studio art, to build on the connection between local schools and the Department of Fine Arts,” said Karen Oremus, interim dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. “The certificate is also used to prepare current--or recent—M.F.A. students as educators at the post-secondary level, and to help artists align creative research with pedagogy.”
The campus-based program consists of 10-12 credit hours throughout the course of one year.
