  • Additional refinements to the calendar were made after input from the campus community, recommendation from academic leaders, and approval from Winthrop’s senior leadership.
  • As previously announced, there will be no fall break in October; the university will conclude face-to-face instruction before Thanksgiving break; and then Winthrop will move to remote instruction to complete the fall semester.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA  Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Adrienne McCormick announced today final modifications to Winthrop University’s fall 2020 academic schedule due to COVID-19.
As previously announced, there will be no fall break in October; the university will conclude face-to-face instruction before Thanksgiving break; and then Winthrop will move to remote instruction to complete the fall semester.

Additional refinements to the calendar were made after input from the campus community, recommendation from academic leaders, and approval from Winthrop’s senior leadership.

“We have rescinded our decision to offer remote learning on Election Day and have shifted to remote learning earlier, to give students additional flexibility in leaving campus,” McCormick said.  “The changes are designed to minimize travel to and from campus on holidays and shift all courses to remote instruction starting Thanksgiving week to avoid potential increased instances of COVID-19 coinciding with the regular flu season.”

To recap the final modifications:

Labor Day – Offices will be open, and classes will be held.
Election Day – Offices will be open, but classes will not be held.
November 23 will be a remote instruction day, allowing students to leave the residence halls with less congestion any time after November 21.
November 24 there will be no classes.
November 25 will be a holiday, and offices will be closed.
