ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – “The most attentive and supportive pianist I’ve ever worked with.”

“A true collaborator in every sense of the word.”

“Intuitively knows how to support a singer in each phrase they sing/shape.”

Those are just some of the reasons why the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (SCNATS) just presented Winthrop University music faculty member Jeremy Mims with the Fran McMillan Pinson Collaborative Pianist Award.

Established in 2020, the award is in memory of Fran McMillan Pinson, a staff accompanist for the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, and recognizes an outstanding contribution by a pianist accompanying singers.

“I love collaborating with singers and assisting them in their performances,” said Mims, an associate professor of music. “I was honored to be nominated and then receive this award. I am grateful to be able to make music with our singers at Winthrop and in our state. Thanks to the students and teachers with whom I get to collaborate on a weekly basis!”
