ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The chief justice of the S.C. Supreme Court will help Winthrop University students understand how the court works during a Sept. 17 appearance as part of Constitution Day.
Chief Justice John Kittredge will appear from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Dina’s Place in the DiGiorgio Campus Center. This particular program will help attendees better understand the judicial system of South Carolina, the type of cases that make their way to the state Supreme Court and how justices decide them. The judge also will share insights from his career in the legal profession, including his time on the bench.
The discussion will run for about an hour and will be followed by a 15-minute question and answer session. The moderator is Tony Hobert, an assistant professor of political science, whose main interest is public law.
In recognition of Constitution Day on Sept. 17, the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy hosts an annual event to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1787.
The event is hosted by the West Forum in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, Philosophy, Religion and Legal Studies, the Political Science Honor Society and the Winthrop University Honors Association.
