April 7-13, 2025
Graduate Student Appreciation Week was started in 1993 by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students as a way to support and appreciate graduate and professional students. The week seeks to emphasize the contributions, impact, and value of graduate and professional students on campuses throughout the United States.
Winthrop will be celebrating the week with a variety of events for graduate students: some designed to boost your professional profile, help you connect with your community, or increase your sugar intake!
We look forward to celebrating all that is extraordinary about our Winthrop Graduate Students!
During this week, stop by the Graduate Studies Office or the main office of your college for a goodie bag of treats to get you through the rest of the semester! We’ll also have Appreciation Week pins which can get you discounts around town (see Local Vendor Discounts at the bottom of the page).

The Graduate Showcase Group Poster Session was created as a way for groups to participate in the competition and excitement of the 3-Minute Graduate Showcase. This is a contest that challenges graduate students to summarize their group research within the confines of a 30”x40” poster for presentation to a general audience.
Cash prizes will be awarded to each member of the winning group, as chosen by audience vote.
Find submission information and presentation details on the Graduate Showcase webpage.
The Three Minute Graduate Showcase (3MGS) modifies the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition created by the University of Queensland—a contest that challenges graduate students to summarize their research within three minutes to a general audience. The University of Queensland developed the contest in 2008 to help graduate students improve their oral communication skills.
Cash prizes will be awarded to first place, second place, and to a “People’s Choice” winner chosen by audience members.
Find submission information and presentation details on the Graduate Showcase webpage.
