Consistent with Winthrop University's Sustainability Policy, a Centralized Waste and Recycling Plan (pdf - 145 KB), centralized recycling and trash stations have been installed in public corridors in education buildings. Individuals will be more readily choose recycling and support campus and state sustainability initiatives by diverting waste from landfill and increase recycling rates, and reduce the contamination rates of recyclables. Removing trash cans from classrooms and providing centralized collection stations will reduce costs through energy efficiency and improve campus safety in the classroom.
