Welcome to the Undergraduate Research (UR) program at Winthrop University!
If you answer “yes!” to any of these questions, an undergraduate research experience is right for you.
Undergraduate research is an activity that requires effort, engages you in a deep learning experience, and builds meaningful relationships with peers and the faculty mentor. Research experiences assist your development as a creative, persistent and responsible leader. By engaging in a research project during your undergraduate experience, you will develop beyond the constraints of the classroom and better prepare yourself for life after Winthrop. You may even graduate as the co-author of a publication!
You’ve come to the right place! Take a few minutes to browse through this website – you will find useful information no matter what interests you. The next step is to find a mentor and project. You can browse through the websites of faculty members in your department, contact a trusted faculty member that you already know, browse active research mentors in our research mentor interest database (you'll need to login with your Winthrop credentials) or contact us and we can help you find your path.
Perhaps the most rewarding part of participating in undergraduate research is the opportunities you will have to present your work and interact with experts in your field. A major part of this office is to help create and facilitate these opportunities. We help students travel to professional research conference by providing some financial support and help coordinate group travel. Additionally, we create a local opportunity for you to present your work; the Showcase of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors (SOURCE) is organized and hosted by this office each year to make sure you have the chance to wow the campus with your research. Finally, we produce the Undergraduate Scholarship and Creative Activity compilation that documents students’ projects each year.
Please contact us by e-mail or phone if we can be of assistance. Also, please connect with our social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat: WinthropU_UGRES) to keep up-to-date on UR!
Sincerely,
Director of Undergraduate Research
