A study plan and practice tests are available in Blackboard (under MyMathTest Study Plan) to help students review prior to taking the Mathematics Placement Exam.
Whether preparing to take the Mathematics Placement Exam for the first time, or preparing to retake the exam to improve your placement level, all students should take advantage of the online study plan. The study plan contains questions on topics covered in the Mathematics Placement Exam and Mathematics Placement Exam - For Placement Into Calculus exams. The Mathematics Placement Exam covers content in chapters 0 and 1, and the Mathematics Placement Exam - For Placement Into Calculus covers content in chapters 1-5.
While working through the study plan, you can click the binoculars icon to see solutions to example problems, or click the key icon to obtain helpful hints on the problems you are currently working. Some problems also have a video of an example problem being worked.
Upon logging into the program for the first time, all of the study plan content will be available. Once you have completed your first attempt at the Mathematics Placement Exam, the study plan will be updated to show which content area(s) you should concentrate on during your review.
There are two practice tests. MPE Practice Test A helps prepare students for the Mathematics Placement Exam, and MPE Practice Test B helps prepare students for the Mathematics Placement Exam - For Placement Into Calculus. The practice tests may be taken at any time - both before and after taking either the Mathematics Placement Exam or the Mathematics Placement Exam - For Placement Into Calculus.
All students are encouraged to complete MPE Practice Test A. Students who are trying to place directly into MATH 105 or MATH 201 should also complete MPE Practice Test B.
Unlike the Mathematics Placement Exam and the Mathematics Placement Exam - For Placement Into Calculus, you may review each practice test to compare your answers to the correct answers, and you can retake the practice tests as many times as needed.
Before you can take the Mathematics Placement Exam - Additional Attempts, you must answer at least 75% of the questions correctly on MPE Practice Test A.
Before you can take the Mathematics Placement Exam - For Placement Into Calculus - Additional Attempts, you must answer at least 75% of the questions correctly on MPE Practice Test B.
Students are also strongly encouraged to work through their updated study plan before retesting.
