Accounting, Finance, & Economics

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Accounting, Finance, and Economics Department at Winthrop University! If you are interested in careers that are both personally and financially fulfilling, we offer innovative degree programs that will help you achieve your goals.

At the undergraduate level, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with concentrations in Accounting, Finance, and Economics. In addition, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Financial Technology, which is a STEM-designated degree and the first program of its kind in the state of South Carolina. The close proximity of our campus to Charlotte, NC, the second largest financial center in the U.S. and one of the top ten fintech ecosystems in the world, provides our students with phenomenal career opportunities. Our programs are very popular due to outstanding student outcomes and an unrivaled placement record. Graduates work for public accounting firms, banking and financial institutions, major corporations, fintech companies, government, think tanks, non-profit organizations, and regional or local companies in all areas of accounting, finance, and economics. In short, our department has in-demand programs, dynamic faculty, innovative teaching methods, and high-impact experiences that will help you succeed.

At the graduate level, we offer a STEM-designated 30-credit-hours Master of Science in Accounting and Analytics. Completing this program is a great way to fulfill the 150 credit hours that are needed to obtain the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. We also offer an MBA with a Finance emphasis.

Our faculty are committed to teaching and research excellence. In addition, our students benefit from small class sizes and individual academic advising with faculty mentors. Students have opportunities to participate in high-impact learning experiences, such as internships, field trips, student competitions, and research projects. They also benefit from meeting and talking directly with employers during networking, alumni events, guest speaker days, and career fairs.

I invite you to explore the Accounting, Finance, and Economics Department offerings and hope to see you on campus soon.
