Scholarships

 

The College of Business and Technology scholarships are offered as funds are available to continuing students only.  First-year freshman and Transfer students are eligible to apply following completion of their first year at Winthrop.  To apply, complete a scholarship application and notify the Student Services office in 226 Thurmond or via e-mail. Application deadlines will be announced during the spring semester each year.

Ackerman Breakfield Excellence in Accounting Award - In 1985, Mr. Robert H. Breakfield, J.D., a Business Law and Tax Professor in the Winthrop University College of Business and Technology and Mr. Bernard N. Ackerman, C.P.A, P.A, a Rock Hill area accountant and certified financial planner, established this award to be given to the rising senior accounting major with the highest G.P.A.  The award is given in honor of Harold and Helen Lindewood and in honor of George and Sarah Ackerman.

 

Bryan Pattison Endowed Scholarship - This scholarship was established in 2003 by family, Lending Tree, Inc., friends, and co-workers in memory of Bryan Pattison, Winthrop class of 1994, for the purpose of providing scholarships for students majoring in Computer Science at Winthrop University.  This scholarship is renewable to the top-performing Business Administration students upon the completion of Computer Science 207 and 208.

 

Founders Federal Credit Union Endowed Scholarship - This fund was established by Founders Federal Credit Union for the purpose of providing renewable scholarships for students majoring in Business Administration.

 

J. Barnwell and Mary Blair Allison Scholarship - This fund was established in memory of J. Barnwell and Mary Blair Allison.  Its purpose is to provide scholarships exclusively for students in the College of Business and Technology.

 

Joycelyn Kirby Smith Scholarship - Established by William L. Smith in memory of Joycelyn Kirby Smith, Winthrop class of 1947, this fund provides recognition and enrichment opportunities to students in the College of Business. The fund provides a cash and plaque award, The Joycelyn Kirby Smith Investment Award for the College of Business and Technology student whose portfolio performs best according to guidelines established by the instructor in an investment course. Additionally, the fund is used to underwrite speakers and related events or investment-related periodicals.

 

Kenneth W. Carroll Memorial Fund - This fund supports the College of Business and Technology and was established to honor the late Kenneth Carroll '93, who majored in Business Administration/Management and minored in Health Care Management.

 

Mary Ann Henry McCarty Endowed Scholarship - This fund was established by the H.F. McCarty, Jr. Family Foundation in honor of Mary Ann Henry McCarty, Class of 1943, for the purpose of providing renewable scholarships for students majoring in Business Administration.

 

Paul G. Gross Scholarship - This fund was established by the Paul G. Gross Trust for the purpose of providing merit-based scholarships for students who are or intend to become business majors in the College of Business and Technology.

 

Robyn T. Bixenman Endowed Scholarship - This scholarship was established in memory of Robyn T. Bixenman, R.N., by William R. Bixenman, M.D., and Robert H. Breakfield. The purpose is to provide an academic scholarship to a junior in the College of Business and Technology who is pursuing a concentration in Health Care Management.

 

Roger and Elizabeth Weikle Intl Opportunities Endowment - The purpose of the fund is to support students for short term study abroad trips, support students for semester long study abroad experiences, support students for international internships, and support adjunct faculty as participants in short term study abroad trips or to supervise student interns. Eligible recipients are students majoring in or adjunct faculty within the College of Business & Technology or the Department of Nutrition. Within a pool of candidates who meet the criteria, need may be considered.

 

Rock Hill Telephone Company Scholarship - Established in 1985 by the Rock Hill Telephone Company, this fund provides both discretionary and scholarship support to the College of Business and Technology with a focus on projects related to telecommunications.

 

William H. Grier Chair of Management - This fund was established in memory of William J. Grier, Sr., to supplement the salary of the Winthrop University faculty member holding the William H. Grier Professorship in the College of  Business Administration.

 

Janet and Wayne Smalley Endowed Scholarship - This scholarship was established by Wayne Smalley and Janet Rice Smalley, Class of 1972, for the purpose of providing renewable scholarships for undergraduate students who are majoring in Business Administration or Education.

 

Brianne Roundtree and Wanda Manning International Field Experience Fund - This fund was established by Brianne Roundtree, '06,  and Wanda Manning, '06,  to provide funds for an eligible student who has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 in the College of Business and Technology and to enable him or her to participate in an international field experience associated with the BADM 400/BADM 600 International Field Experience.
