Call Me MISTER Application
Each applicant must meet the following criteria to be eligible for consideration:
- Apply and be accepted to Winthrop University
- Enroll as a Teacher Education major
- Complete the FAFSA
- Complete the Call Me MISTER Program application (PDF- 679 kb)
- Two letters of recommendation
- One from an educator or administrator representing the last school attended
- One from a person of the student's choice who can describe the student's involvement
in the community and/or potential for entering the teaching profession
- Two Essays
- An essay entitled "Why I Want to Teach" which will address the student's motivation
for entering the teaching profession and the contributions he hopes to make to the
profession and the community as a teacher.
- An essay entitled "How the Call Me MISTER Program will Benefit Me as a Student"
- A signed statement from a counselor or school official certifying that the student
is from an underserved, socio-economically disadvantaged, or educationally at-risk
community.
- It is expected that a MISTER who accepts the scholarship and completes his program
of study and teacher certification will assume a teaching position in a South Carolina
public school. The MISTER will teach one year for each year he receives financial
support from Call Me MISTER program.
Priority deadline for admission is March 15; however, admission is on a rolling basis
so applying earlier is strongly recommended.
