Dr. Erin Hamel is an associate professor in the department of Curriculum and Pedagogy at Winthrop University. She also serves as Director of Macfeat Early Childhood Laboratory School at Winthrop University. Dr. Hamel was born and raised in Ohio. After moving to South Carolina with her family and graduating from high school there, she attended Winthrop University where she received her B.S. in Early Childhood Education. She then obtained her dream job teaching first grade and kindergarten in the Rock Hill School District. During her early childhood teaching years, Dr. Hamel obtained her M.Ed. in Reading from Winthrop University. Wanting to continue learning, she pursued her Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education with a focus in emergent literacy at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Hamel resides in Rock Hill, within walking distance to Winthrop. She lives with her husband Brian, a chemical engineer, and her two children, Maddie and Nathan.
