Dr. Stapleton is a Professor and the Elementary Program Director in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. She currently teaches Elementary Social Studies methods, teaches/supervises field experiences and internships, and collaborates with other elementary faculty in facilitating the senior year edTPA process. Her research publications and presentations focus on increasing the effectiveness of teacher preparation programs through curriculum innovations. Examples of publication topics include using video coaching software to support teacher candidate development, co-teaching, and the Inquiry Design Model.
Dr. Stapleton is was born and raised in Virginia where she taught for 7 years. After earning her doctorate she taught at East Carolina University for 17 years. Dr. Stapleton came to Winthrop in 2017. She loves the close personal relationships she is able to develop with her students. She also enjoys working with faculty across the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences to provide the best education possible for our teacher candidates.
