The M.Ed. in Learning Design and Technology is a comprehensive program appropriate
for K-12 educators and other professional educators working in higher education, corporate
learning and development or any other professional learning environment. We are a
program dedicated to helping working adults use the skills and strategies of Learning
Design and Technology to improve learning and performance support in whatever environment
they work in. Many of our students stay in their current position and use these skills.
Some students use these skills for professional advancement within their current organization.
Others seek a career change. Below is a highlight of where our graduates work and
what they are doing.
Teachers. The vast majority of our graduates are working in K-12 schools. Our graduates are
using their knowledge of the intersection of learning theory and appropriate technology
use to improve student learning. During the pandemic of 2020, our graduates reported
being the best prepared people in their schools to create remote learning materials
and manage online learning. Their course work in media production and online learning
proved valuable as they created their own learning materials and provided professional
development and support to their colleagues.
Technology Specialists. Our graduates are working as district and building level technology specialists.
People in these positions are providing services such as faculty development, managing
technology implementation planning, and advising on new initiatives.
Notable Locations. Our graduates are working in rural, suburban, and urban schools primarily in the
southeastern United States, but we have graduates working around the US. We have a
significant number of graduates working in Saudi Arabia.
Instructional Designers. Our graduates are working with faculty to design, develop, and implement quality
classroom based and online learning materials. They advise on units of learning materials
and entire courses and degree programs.
Instructional Technology Support. Our graduates work with faculty, staff, and students on providing assistance in
selecting and using appropriate technologies for classroom based and online learning
materials.
Managing Instructional Technology Centers. Our graduates are managing resources such as our Instructional Technology Center.
Our current ITC Director is an Educational Technology graduate.
eLearning Specialists. Our graduates are working in support roles to help design,
develop, and support online learning classes and degree programs.
Notable Locations. Clemson University, Limestone University (NC), Palm Beach Atlantic University (FL),
South Piedmont Community College (NC) and Winthrop University (SC).
Instructional Designers. Our graduates are working to design and develop learning materials to support the
mission of a variety of for profit companies.
Learning Experience Designers (LXD). Similar to instructional designers, our LXDs work on the gestalt experience including
user interface design and look and feel of the learning materials.
eLearning Specialists. Our graduates work to help for profit companies design, develop, and implement online
learning materials and to manage online learning resources for a variety of for profit
companies.
Product Support Specialists. Our graduates work as onsite and remote support specialists for educational technology
products and learning management systems.
Notable Locations. Canvas Learning Management Systems, Charter Communications, Meta (formerly Facebook),
Learning Systems International, and Salesforce.
