Benefits and Eligibility

The Winthrop Eagle STEM Scholars Program is seeking motivated, goal-oriented, high-caliber students who demonstrate excellent proficiency in science and mathematics.  This student-centered program provides individual and peer support, resources for academic success, and an unmatched level of access to scientific research. Applicants should have completed advanced or AP/IB courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, or biology and should also have a strong GPA and math SAT score (optional).

The Eagle STEM Scholars Program is for college students:

  • who are academically talented students and may have financial un-met need.
  • interested in directly matriculating to Master's program, Ph.D. program, or a professional career in biomedical science, bioengineering, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, math, computer science, environmental science, or cybersecurity.
  • who are motivated and well-prepared high school seniors.

Some of the selected scholars may also receive a financial package.

The Eagle STEM Scholars Advisory Board will make selections for the program based on students' academic performance, standardized test scores (optional), and commitment to community service. Preference is given to those who have taken advanced placement courses in math and science.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Eagle STEM Scholars Program, prospective students must:

  • be available to attend a Summer Bridge Program for six weeks.
  • have significant achievement in advanced placement courses in math and science as indicated on high school transcript.
  • have a minimum of 580 Math SAT or 25 ACT score (optional) and a minimum 3.4 GPA.
  • have received no lower than a B in any high school science or math course.
