Frequently Asked Questions

Which CITI Modules are required?

    • Working with the IACUC
  • For projects that require Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) review
    • Basic Biosafety Training
  • For projects that require Institutional Review Board (IRB) review

What if I have completed CITI training at another institution?

  • If you are listed as research personnel on a WU based study, and have completed CITI training at another institution, (1) log-on to CITI using your existing CITI username and password, (2) click on View/Print/Share next to the appropriate certification course [ex: Social/Behavioral Research Course,] and (3) follow instructions provided.

How much time will it take?

  • This will depend on your experience with the particular research course. Most individual modules will take about 20-30 minutes to complete. Researchers familiar with these topics may require three hours or less to complete all of the required modules in a course. You do not have to complete all the modules at once. CITI is designed for you to work at your own pace, and allows you to exit and return at a later date to where you left off.

When do I have to renew my training?

  • CITI certifications are valid for 4 years from the date of completion unless otherwise noted. Faculty and staff members will receive an e-mail notification from the GSRD office 60 days prior to certification expiration dates.
