2022-2023 Award Winners

Alumni TIES Scholarship: The Alumni TIES offers a scholarship to cover costs of attending their regional seminar held exclusively for alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs to learn about key regional issues, receive training, collaborate with fellow alumni, and apply for small grants to implement projects in their home communities. Interested applicants apply through a competitive, online application process. The State Department’s Office of Alumni Affairs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs conducts the final review of applicants.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship: The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, up to $5,000 per semester, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.

FIE Sharif Rahman Scholarship:  In memory of our late Chairman and FIE founder Sharif Rahman, the Sharif Rahman Memorial Scholarship program was established in 2003 for FIE students and offers $3,000 towards the cost of studying abroad through an FIE program.

Gilman International Scholarship Program: The Gilman Program awards 3,600 scholarships of up to $5,000 per academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduate students to pursue academic studies abroad. Fund Education Abroad Scholarship (FEA): The mission of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is to provide scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the U.S. study abroad population. FEA makes life-changing, international experiences accessible to all by supporting students of color, community college, and first-generation college students before, during, and after they participate in education abroad programs.

The Future Nobel Laurate Scholarship Program: Fueled by a common belief that in order to change the world you need to experience it, EF College Study and The Forum on Education Abroad have created a first-of-its-kind, high-impact student scholarship program, in collaboration with EF’s educational partner the Nobel Prize Museum. This interdisciplinary program, which combines an online project-based course, an international field study in Sweden, and attendance at the 2022 Nobel Week Dialogue, is dedicated to including students from diverse backgrounds.

Japan Exchange and Teaching Program: The JET Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. Being a JET is an opportunity to work and to represent the United States as cultural ambassadors to Japan. Most participants serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and work in public and private schools throughout Japan; some work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as interpreters/translators.

National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS): One of the major challenges for people completing their education is funding. The NSLS Foundation eliminates these challenges by providing scholarships and grants to individuals committed to building a better world. The NSLS Foundation awards over $400,000 each year to NSLS members.

Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship: Established in 1932, the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship has become the Society’s signature award, providing funding for the first year of graduate or professional study. This year’s program awarded two awards at $35,000 each, the 1897 Fellowship and the Sherrill Carlson Fellowship; six $20,000 Marcus L. Urann Fellowships, named for the Society’s founder; and 54 fellowships of $8,500 each.

    Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics: Elie Wiesel and his wife, Marion, established The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity soon after he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize for Peace. The Foundation's mission, rooted in the memory of the Holocost, is to combat indifference, intolerance, and injustice through international dialogue and youth-focused programs that promote acceptance, understanding, and equality. The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest was established in 1989 as an annual competition deisgned to challenge college students to analyze the urgent ethical issues confronting them in today's complex world. Students are encouraged to write thought-provoking personal essays that raise questions, single out issues, and are rational arguments for ethical action. Winners receive cash prizes.

    Winthrop University Finalist: Sandra Reyes

    Rangel Graduate Fellowship: The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a program that aims to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers in Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State in which they can help formulate, represent, and implement U.S. foreign policy. The Rangel Program selects outstanding Rangel Fellows annually in a highly competitive nationwide process and supports them through two years of graduate study, internships, mentoring, and professional development activities. This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. Fellows who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements will receive appointments as Foreign Service Officers, in accordance with applicable laws and State Department policy.

    National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship: NSF fellowships support outstanding graduate students in the relevant STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in the sciences, mathematics, physics, biology, social sciences, engineering, and the history and philosophy of science.

    Sigma Tau Delta Senior Scholarship: Sigma Tau Delta offers the Senior Scholarship in honor of Elva Bell McLin, past Southern Regent and Historian for the Society. Students who are currently in their senior year of undergraduate study are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applications should demonstrate both academic achievement and campus, community, or chapter service; applicants should explain the relevance of their program of study to fostering the discipline of English, including literature, language, writing, and literacy.

NSF Fellows are expected to become knowledge experts who can contribute significantly to research, teaching, and innovations in science and engineering.

    Fulbright Killam US-Canada Exchange Program: This fellowships program allows undergraduate students from Canada and the United States to participate in a program of binational residential exchange. Killam Fellows spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the host country.

    Alpha Kappa Alpha Graduate Educational Advancement Foundation Scholarship: This scholarship provides funds to advance education in fulfillment of its mission: “To promote life-long learning.” This is accomplished by securing charitable funds to award scholarships and grants. The Foundation is a source of support to graduate students, post freshman students and non-profit organizations serving diverse beneficiaries. Foundation scholarships and grants are awarded without regard to gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability. The only means to obtain an application is through the website.

    Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship: Every year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards fifty-seven Fellowships of $5,000 each and three of $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards.

    Hispanic Scholarship Fund: Designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage to obtain a college degree, Hispanic Scholarships are available, on a competitive basis, to high school seniors, undergraduate students (all years), community collge students transferring to four year universities, and graduate students. Awards are based on merit and emphasize STEM majors and amounts range from $500 to $5,000 based on need.

    Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics: The Elie Wiesel Essay Contest was established in 1989 as an annual competition designed to challenge college students to analyze the urgent ethical issues confronting them in today's complex world. There is a $5,000 first prize, $2,500 second prize, $1,500 third prize, and two $500 honorable mentions for personal essays on ethics.

Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in overseas departments of France, including Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

    Boren/National Security Education Program (NSEP): The National Security Education Program (NSEP) provides a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). NSEP provides scholarships to U.S. undergraduate students for study abroad in world areas critical to U.S. National Security. Recipients incur an obligation to work either for an office or agency of the Federal Government involved in national security affairs or in higher education. NSEP is merit based. The maximum NSEP Boren Scholarship award is $8,000 for a summer, $10,000 for a semester, and $20,000 for an academic year.

    Chi Omega Mary Love Collins Memorial Scholarship: Celebrating a former National Chi Omega President's pursuit of education, this scholarship assists members who are enrolled in a full time graduate degree program for the upcoming academic year. Both seniors in college and alumnae members are encouraged to apply.

    National GEM Consortium Fellowship: GEM offers M.S. and Ph.D. students outstanding opportunities and access to dozens of the top Engineering and Science firms and universities in the nation. The GEM Fellowship was designed to focus on promoting opportunities for individuals to enter industry at the graduate level in areas such as research and development, product development, and other high-level technical careers. GEM also offers exposure to a number of opportunities in academe.

NSF Fellows are expected to become knowledge experts who can contribute significantly to research, teaching, and innovations in science and engineering.
