The Master of Science in Athletic Training program prepares students for the national Board of Certification (BOC) examination to become a certified athletic trainer. This is a two year, full time program that emphasizes hands-on experience and includes the professional content mandated by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. This program is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

The mission of the Winthrop University Master of Science in Athletic Training is to utilize evidence-based didactic and clinical education to continue a rich tradition of preparing a diverse population of athletic training professionals. Students will develop appropriate knowledge, skills, and clinical abilites to fuction as resilient leaders of an interprofessional healthcare team. They will provide ethical, compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centered care to all patients, and will demonstrate commitment to on-going professional engagement and continuing education.
Athletic training is a health care profession that includes prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. Athletic trainers collaborate with physicians to enhance activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic trainers are employed in the following settings:
