Biochemistry Student Wins Award at Conference

Junior biochemistry major Betsy Ryerson was one of a dozen students recognized at the annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Betsy received a Presentation Award at the conference in November in the category of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Read more about Betsy's recognition here.

 

World's Hottest Chili Pepper Confirmed by Winthrop Chemistry Professor

Winthrop Chemistry professor Cliff Calloway and his students used HPLC analysis to verify that "Pepper X" is now the hottest chili pepper in the world. The new variety, developed by Ed Currie of Puckerbutt Peppers, scored over 2.6 million Scoville heat units making it roughly 3 times hotter than the Carolina Reaper pepper, the previous record holder. The pepper was recently featured in an episode of the popular "Hot Ones" YouTube show.

 

Winthrop SURE Poster Session

The annual SURE Poster Session will be held on Friday, September 30 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Richardson Ballroom. Come see what our research students accomplished this summer!

 

Chemistry Senior wins Inez Bell Caskey Student Scholar Award

Graduating chemistry major Christine Dunn was presented the 2022 Inez Bell Caskey Student Scholar Award in Science and Mathematics. The award was given in recognition of the outstanding undergraduate research in biochemistry she conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Jason Hurlbert.

 

Senior Sendoff 2022

The department's annual Senior Sendoff will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. in the Sims 301 studyroom.

 

Winthrop SOURCE 2022

The annual Showcase of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors (SOURCE) will be held on Friday, April 15.
