William J. Blough Award: Essays may be on any political science topic. Entries may be identical to papers that have been previously submitted in political science courses, modified versions of such papers, or essays written specifically for this competition. The prizewinning essays will be chosen strictly on the basis of intellectual merit. Intellectual merit includes originality of thought, thoroughness of research, and effectiveness of writing. In the event all entries lack sufficient merit, no prizes will be awarded.
Provides $1,000 to a graduating senior in Political Science who intends to pursue a graduate degree. Academic performance, undergraduate research, civic engagement, and financial need will all be considered in the selection of each year's recipient. Please submit a resume/CV and a statement of purpose for graduate study. In your statement of purpose, please include the graduate schools to which you have applied or intend to apply, and whether or not you have yet been notified of your acceptance.
This award will be presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate majoring or minoring in Political Science who, through her or his dedication and commitment to community service, activism, service learning, and/or volunteerism, has enhanced life in her/his community. The applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student at Winthrop University in good standing who has completed 50 or more hours of volunteer service off campus.
This award will be presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate majoring or minoring in Political Science who has participated in and/or presented civically and politically engaged undergraduate research that uses the study of political science to make the world a better place.
The Timothy Boylan Pre-Law Award: will be presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate majoring or minoring in Political Science who has an expressed interest in continuing their academic career by pursuing a law degree. Please submit a copy of your resume/CV and a statement of purpose for law school. In your statement of purpose, please include the law schools to which you have applied or intend to apply, and whether or not you have yet been notified of your acceptance.
This scholarship will be awarded to a Political Science major interested in a career in City Management. The duration of the Scholarship is one semester. The student will intern with the City of Rock Hill during the Spring semester. Students should submit a resume and a letter of application addressing their interest in a career in city management specifically or public administration more broadly and how this internship could help! The scholarship includes a stipend of $1,000.
