Virtual interviews for the 2024-2025 internship class will take place on campus on Friday, February 14, 2025 (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) Interviews are by invitation only.

Internship applications are accepted by DICAS between startring Augst 5 until February 1 for fall semester acceptance (for specific dates see DICAS).  For a more thorough explanation of the application process, including information for international and recency of educational course requirements, visit Dietetic Internships and the Frequently Asked Questions section on this website. Description

Completion and submission of DICAS application by deadline

Submission of the WU Application for the dietetic internship through DICAS between  August 5 - February 1. All applications must be compete by midnight of February 1 for review. See the DICAS website to register and to obtain registration fees and specific dates for portal openings.

DPD Verification (or intent to complete) Statement through DICAS

Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) verification statement or an "intent to complete" statement obtained from the DPD Director. The DPD coursework must be completed no later than university graduation the following May. The DPD verification statement is submitted through DICAS. Winthrop DPD students must contact Dr. Wanda Koszewski for their intent to complete or Verification Statement at koszewskiw@winthrop.edu.

Original transcripts of all colleges and universities attended via DICAS 

During the regular application process transcripts are submitted through DICAS.  Applicants must have earned an overall GPA grade point ratio greater than or equal to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and must have an overall GPA of at least 3.2 in all DPD coursework. The transcript must document completion of a B.S. or B.A. degree.

3 References via DICAS

References (submitted through DICAS) from three professionals or faculty or supervisors. The Department's full-time faculty do not provide references for WU applicants. Referees should be cognizant of the applicant's knowledge, abilities, leadership attributes, and work ethic.

Personal Statement

A personal statement detailing your leadership attributes, and preparedness to be an outstanding intern in this program.

Virtual Interview by Invitation

An virtual interview with the Winthrop University selection committee by invitation. Invited applicants will interview on the second Friday of February or February 14, 2025.  Those not notified by this date unfortunately did not qualify for an interview

Winthrop University's Graduate Studies- Certificate Dietetic Internship

Applicants who have been offered acceptance to the Winthrop DI must notify the DI director no later than March 15th.  This acceptance is binding. Prospective interns will then be directed to apply to the Gradute School MS in Human Nutrition degree program (Graduate Studies Application)  and will receive a waiver for the application fee by the DI director. Requirements include submission of the online WU Graduate Studies application and official transcripts from all schools attended sent directly to Winthrop from the issuing institutions. There is an initial application fee to WU Graduate Studies but not for Winthrop's Internship program. Applicants will apply for the fall sememster to begin the MS degree. Applicants must complete the graduate degree course requirements no later than December of year 2 or by the end of semester 4 in the program. DI Verification Statements which are issued upon satisfactory completion of all DI requirements cannot be issued until the graduate degree is awarded.

Only those interns who are degree-seeking or in the certificate program are eligible for student-based financial aid.

*Note: Interns pay all required graduate tuition and lab fees for all semesters in the MS and DI programs. During semester 3, summer semester, the intern will apply for the Certificate Dietetic Internship through the graduate school to continue on in the supervised practice rotations that take place during year 2 or fall and spring semester. The application fee for the Certificate is waived. Interns will be required to submit additional documentation for onboarding to their supervised practice sites during the summer prior to starting the DI. This will include a complete record of immunizations and required titers, a Quantiferon test (this tests for TB), required drug testing, and a criminal background check; some facilities require additional procedures such as additional drug screening, supplemental immunizations, and/or supplemental background checks.
