Career Assessments
Learning about your interests, skills, values, and personality is part of the college
experience and foundational to the career exploration process. Career assessments are a way to support academic and career exploration and to gain a better understanding of personal attributes that may lead to greater career
satisfaction. The CDI offers the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to Winthrop students and alumni; read below to learn more!
- You must first schedule a Career Coaching appointment to discuss your goals and what you hope
to learn.
- If the assessment is part of a class assignment, your faculty member will provide
specific instructions.
- During the appointment, the Career Coach will recommend which assessment(s) - if any
- will best support your goals and will provide you with instructions to purchase the assessment(s) that you will complete.
The Strong Interest Inventory costs $13 and the MBTI costs $20.
- After your purchase, the Career Coach will send you instructions on how to complete
the assessment(s).
- You must schedule a Results Interpretation appointment (Strong or MBTI) to discuss
your assessment with a Coach; each assessment requires an individual 60-minute appointment.
Strong Interest Inventory
- The Strong provides robust insight into your interests, to help you consider potential
careers and educational pathways.
- Built on psychologist John Holland’s theory, the Strong is backed by more than 80
years of research into how people of similar interests are employed, and what motivates
them in the workplace.
- The Strong provides data on your strength of interest in six General Occupational
Themes; it helps you gain a better understanding of personal descriptors, academic
interests, leisure activities, and career motivators.
- Your report results include detailed information on academic and occupational interest
areas, using O*NET classifications for easy research and follow-up (O*NET is the primary source of occupational
information in the U.S.)
AFTER COMPLETING THE STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY, YOU MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO RECEIVE
YOUR RESULTS.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
- The MBTI is one of the world’s most popular personality tools and enriches people’s
understanding of themselves and others.
- Through a series of forced-choice questions, the MBTI helps you identify your preferences
in four areas of personality. Understanding your personality characteristics gives
you insight you can use to enhance your professional and personal relationships, as
well as your direction, focus, and choices.
- With decades of science-based, research-based insight, the MBTI provides positive
language for understanding and valuing individual differences.
- The MBTI has helped thousands of organizations and millions of people improve how
they communicate, learn, and work. It explains how your preferences may affect what
you may like about a given career or work setting.
- The MBTI uses O*NET classifications for easy research and follow-up (O*NET is the primary source of occupational
information in the U.S.)
AFTER COMPLETING THE MBTI, YOU MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO RECEIVE YOUR RESULTS.
